Although news emerged that the military junta had allowed the reopening of the Hsipaw Bridge, a key trade route in Hsipaw Township, Shan State, it remains closed on the ground and passage is not yet permitted, according to sources.

Starting from July 21, reports circulated that the military junta had allowed the reopening of the Hsipaw Bridge, but since it remains closed, locals and traders still have to rely on boats and rafts to cross the river, sources said.

"They are spreading false news. On the ground, the bridge is still closed for passage. If the bridge were open, commodity prices could drop somewhat," a local told MyoTaw.

It is learned that the fake public representative from Hsipaw has demanded in the fake parliament that the Hsipaw Bridge be reopened, and locals are still waiting for the day when passage across the bridge will be allowed.

During Operation 1027, the Ta'ang (Palaung) National Liberation Army (TNLA) had seized control of Hsipaw town and the bridge, but due to pressure from the Chinese government, they were forced to hand it back to the military junta in October 2025.

The continued closure of the Hsipaw Bridge has led to rising local commodity prices. Those who cross using boats and rafts, as passage on the bridge is not permitted, have to pay between 5,000 and 50,000 kyats per person depending on the goods, and face life-threatening risks such as boat capsizing and drowning due to flooding during the rainy season, according to sources.
