Suspect Arrested for Beating Driver to Death and Stealing Car on Expressway

A suspect who allegedly beat a car rental service driver to death and stole his vehicle near milepost (279/1) on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway has been arrested, according to reports.

On the evening of September 6, a 34-year-old man, U Win Ko, from Zabu Thiri Township, Naypyidaw, was hired by a man to drive him from Naypyidaw to Meiktila. At around 5 PM, a cowherd discovered U Win Ko's body on the Yangon-Mandalay road.

"When his family called his phone at 4:30, a man answered and then hung up. They started searching from there, and the cowherd found the body. He was killed and dumped by the roadside. He was dead with injuries to his face and head," a local resident said.

At around 5:30 PM on September 6, U Win Ko's body was found more than 300 feet from the expressway with injuries to his head and eyes, and was sent to the morgue for examination.

"They said they also found gunshot wounds. It wasn't just a beating. It seems he was shot. I heard this morning around 5 AM that the suspect had been caught," another local resident said.

The suspect believed to have killed U Win Ko and fled in the stolen white Hyundai Accent with license plate 9Q/4825 has been arrested by the Naypyidaw police force, according to reports.
