MyoTaw: Flooding in Naypyidaw Forces Hospital Patient Evacuations

Flooding occurred in Naypyidaw, and some patients at the hospital had to be relocated

Due to heavy rainfall, flooding occurred in Naypyidaw, and residential homes in Pobbathiri Township and hospitals in Uttara Thiri Township experienced water intrusion on the night of July 31, leading to evacuations, according to reports.

In Pobbathiri Township, flooding of the Gwegyi Creek caused water to enter Swel Daw Street, Yangon (1) Road, Yangon (2) Road, and Yangon (3) Road in Sin Phyu Shin Ward, and local residents were evacuated to safety using cars and Owe Owe vehicles, according to reports.

In Uttara Thiri Township, due to mountain runoff from Pho Saung Hill, water entered the blood donation hall, X-ray building, and hospital grounds of the Orthopedic Specialty Hospital, and some patients had to be relocated, according to reports.

"It started around 9 PM last night. At the 500-bed orthopedic hospital in Uttara Thiri, there was considerable damage. Blood bags from the blood bank also had to be moved. Four patients were transferred to the 1,000-bed public hospital. Right now, the water is receding. Since water entered the buildings, only mud remains on the floors," a responsible official from the Social Compassion Association told MyoTaw.

Civil social welfare organizations, including the Social Compassion Association, Ko Hein's team from Pyinmana Auxiliary Fire Brigade, the Thakka Metta Charity Association, Pobbathiri Township Fire Station, Tabinshwehti Area Fire Station, and Uttara District Fire Station, helped with the evacuation efforts in response to the flooding of residential homes in Pobbathiri Township and the water intrusion at the orthopedic hospital in Uttara Thiri Township, according to reports.
