MyoTaw: Daw Mya Than and Group Charged at Mawlamyine Police Station for Disturbing Passengers on DEMU Express Train

Daw Mya Than and her group, who caused disturbances to passengers on the DEMU express train, have been charged at the Mawlamyine police station, it is reported.

All 54 members of the Kan Nar Lane sports team, led by Daw Mya Than, who were shouting and making merry on the down-country Mawlamyine-Yangon Train No. (84) DEMU, have been charged and taken action due to increasing criticism, it is learned.

It is understood that the case was filed at the Mawlamyine police station yesterday, July 26. On July 23, the group led by Daw Mya Than from Kan Nar Lane had purchased tickets for 60 seats in First Class, Carriage (3) of the down-country Mawlamyine-Yangon Train No. (84) DEMU, and they reportedly shouted loudly throughout the entire train carriage.

"If they had rented the whole train, it would be different. But now, they bought tickets for just one carriage and made so much noise that passengers on the entire train couldn't bear it. Looking at their ages, they are old enough to be in a nursing home. Among them were also wives of officials. Taking action like this will make others cautious in the future," a passenger told MyoTaw.

It is reported that passengers were disturbed by their actions on the down-country Train No. (84) DEMU, which included shouting and singing loudly, sitting on the armrests of train seats, blocking the aisle to form a circle for eating, filming TikTok videos, and dancing noisily.

Due to this incident, criticism rose on social media, with calls for their arrest. Consequently, on July 26, U Than Soe, the Chief of Special Class Depot from Myanmar Railways, Region (8), Mawlamyine, filed a complaint. The Mawlamyine City Police Station has charged all 54 individuals, including Daw Mya Than, under Section 88(A) of the Railway Transport Act, it is learned.

Currently, Daw Mya Than and her group have been summoned for questioning and investigation, but they have not been arrested yet, it is reported.

Previously, on July 20, three men who were drunk and disturbing passengers on the Yangon-Mandalay DEMU express train, and four women who chewed betel quid on the train, spilling lime and betel spit, dirtying the surroundings, were also sentenced to 2 months imprisonment each under Case No. (Pa) 167/2026, Section 88(A) of the Railway Transport Act, it is learned.
