North Korea Accuses NATO of Preparing for War with Military Fuel Project

North Korea has accused NATO of preparing for war, saying the expansion of military fuel infrastructure across Europe shows the alliance is becoming an increasingly war-seeking group.

According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), North Korea said NATO's Fuel Supply Chain Capability Programme Plan would connect a fuel network nearly 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) long in Western Europe with new member states in Eastern and Northern Europe.

However, KCNA did not provide any concrete evidence to support the claim that the project is intended to support conflicts that could occur beyond Europe.

NATO, for its part, has said it has been enhancing deterrence and defense capabilities following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

North Korea has consistently condemned military cooperation between the United States, South Korea, and NATO member states, among other countries.

Meanwhile, North Korea and Russia have deepened their military ties since signing a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty in June 2024 that includes mutual defense commitments.

In 2024, North Korea also dispatched approximately 14,000 troops to assist Russian forces during a major Ukrainian offensive in Russia's Kursk region.
