US bombs Iran after American troops killed in Jordan
July 19
After an attack on a US military base in Jordan left two troops dead and one missing, the United States launched its eighth intense bombing campaign against Iran.
The temporary ceasefire agreement signed a month ago collapsed just last week, escalating clashes between the US and Iran and heightening tensions to the point where an all-out war could break out.
The US Central Command stated that the airstrikes began at 6 p.m. on July 18 under the direct orders of President Donald Trump.
It said the attack aimed to reduce Iran's capabilities threatening commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and to immediately retaliate against and punish the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, which attacked US troops in Jordan.
Currently, the US military command confirmed that it has successfully bombed Iran's coastal surveillance and air defense military facilities.
On the other hand, Iran's Mehr news agency reported that although the US attack targeted the southern Iranian city of Sirik, there were no casualties or damage to facilities. Meanwhile, Tasnim news agency said the city of Shadegan near the Iraqi border was also attacked.
Additionally, Iran's Atomic Energy Organization strongly condemned the US attack on the under-construction nuclear power plant compound in Darkhovin, though it did not specify the exact time of the attack.
In response to these attacks, Iran's military announced that early on July 19, it retaliated with drones against the US Al-Adiri military base and Ali Al-Salem airbase in Kuwait.
