Min Aung Hlaing says conscription law will continue to be implemented

The junta government's third session of the Union Parliament, second regular meeting, day (12), was held today, July 31, and self-appointed acting President Min Aung Hlaing delivered a speech marking the government's 100 days in office.

Regarding defense, he said the military would be organized and built into a modern army (Standard Army), and to achieve that, the People's Military Service Law, which was enacted on February 10, 2010, would continue to be implemented and enforced.

He also stated that although the Myanmar Police Force is responsible for domestic security, given the current situation in the country, the military has had to cooperate with the police force and participate in resolving matters.

He also said that administrative bodies responsible at the ward/village tract level and township level, which are the primary points of contact with the public, would be systematically trained to become corruption-free and capable administrative organizations.

"The transitional government's 100-day plan period has ended. We see that it has passed without being able to demonstrate effective results. Especially regarding peace matters, we see that the powerful groups currently fighting against the military are not included. We see that forced conscription and arrests to obtain military strength have increased during this plan period. Apart from the increase in corruption among departmental organizations including the police force, it must be said that nothing substantial was accomplished," CDM Major Swae Taw told MyoTaw.

Furthermore, acting President Min Aung Hlaing said that the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus was not a consensus of the ASEAN organization but was issued only as an annex to the statement of the ASEAN Chair, and that over the past five years, some ASEAN countries had shown attitudes and discrimination against Myanmar, that responses would be made to the unconstructive discriminatory actions, and that relations with ASEAN would be handled and resolved in its own way.
