After the Republican Party lost the by-election due to the Iran war, pressure has been mounting to remove US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth from his position, but Hegseth has said he will not back down and will continue to face the situation.

In a video released on social media, Hegseth defended the Iran war as a bold and historic military operation, and said it was being carried out to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

He also responded that the accusations against him and efforts to remove him from office were merely political attacks and would not succeed.

After the Republican Party lost control of Congress in the by-election, the victorious Democratic Party has announced it will investigate Hegseth's handling of the Pentagon and the Iran war.

Republican congressman Thomas Massie has also said he will resubmit a motion to censure Hegseth next week.

On the other hand, President Donald Trump has praised Hegseth as someone doing a good job and said there are no plans to remove him from office. However, some of Trump's advisers assess that Hegseth could lose his position because of the Iran war.

Vice President JD Vance has also publicly stated that the Iran war was the main reason the Republican Party lost the election.

In addition, Hegseth may also face Democratic investigations into US policy on Ukraine and the military's strikes on boats suspected of smuggling drugs in Latin American waters.

Currently, Hegseth is in a situation where he not only risks being removed from office but may also face congressional scrutiny.
