Heavy rain possible in Naypyidaw and central regions due to storm remnants

According to the outputs of three major models — ECMWF, GFS, and ICON — a low-pressure system has begun to intensify over the South China Sea and east of the Philippines, and is forecast to move westward toward the coast of Vietnam between September 13 and 15, according to meteorologist U Win Naing's analysis.

He said the system could weaken into storm remnants and large cloud masses after crossing Vietnam and Laos between September 16 and 17.

Between September 18 and 20, the remnants' wind waves combined with moist monsoon air could potentially penetrate and cross into Shan State (eastern, southern, and northern parts), Sagaing Region, Mandalay Region, Magway Region, and Naypyidaw, he said.

Heavy rain is possible in and around Kengtung, Tachileik, Taunggyi, Kalaw, Nyaungshwe (Inle), Yamethin, and Pyawbwe in Shan State (eastern and southern parts), he said.

Scattered heavy rain and continuous downpours are possible in Naypyidaw, Mandalay, Pyin Oo Lwin, Sagaing, the eastern part of Magway Region, and the Yezin/Paunglaung river basin areas, with some locations potentially receiving high rainfall within 24 hours, he said.

If continuous rain falls in the southern and northern Shan hill and mountain regions, flash floods could suddenly occur, and water levels could rise rapidly in the Sittaung River basin, which flows from Shan State, as well as in creeks and associated reservoirs around Yamethin, Pyawbwe, and Naypyidaw, according to meteorologist U Win Naing's analysis.
