Man Returning Alone from Party in Indonesia Swallowed Whole by 23-Foot Reticulated Python

A 35-year-old man returning home alone from a party in North Maluku province, Indonesia, was attacked and swallowed by a Reticulated Python approximately 23 feet long, resulting in his death, according to reports.

Around 3 a.m. on July 27, Hasin Lombeksi was walking back along a path through the forest after drinking at a rural bar when a large python bit his leg from within the undergrowth, and he died from the snake's constricting squeeze, it was reported.

When Hasin failed to return home, family members went searching and found bloodstains on the road along with his backpack, shoulder bag, and sandals. Following a trail of flattened grass into the forest, they discovered a Reticulated Python with a swollen belly. Upon cutting open the snake's abdomen, they found Hasin's body, according to reports.

In North Maluku province last month, a 25-year-old man riding a motorcycle was also attacked by a 22-foot python, and a 44-year-old woman was swallowed by a 25-foot python while tending cattle.

Since the area is a habitat for wildlife, the Sula Islands police have warned people to be cautious when traveling through gardens and forests, and if possible, not to go alone but to travel with at least two people.

Reticulated Pythons are found throughout Southeast Asia and are among the world's largest snake species, capable of consuming cats, dogs, birds, humans, and even other snakes as food.
