Low Pressure Area Likely in Northern Bay of Bengal; Rain to Continue Across Myanmar

With a possible low-pressure area forming in the northern Bay of Bengal, rain is expected to continue across the country.

The ICON MODEL has forecast that a strong low-pressure area / depression could form and center in the northern Bay of Bengal (off the coast of Bangladesh and near the India-Sittwe coastline).

Due to the combined pull of the low-pressure area in the northern Bay of Bengal, which may form between July 24 and 25, and a storm from the South China Sea, the southwest monsoon wind is said to be very strong, entering the inland areas via the Rakhine coast of Myanmar.

Meteorologist U Win Naing has forecast that due to the strong monsoon wind passing through the central Bay of Bengal, continuous rain could occur in Tanintharyi Region, Ayeyarwady Region, Yangon Region, and Bago Region for the next 5 days.

It is reported that in Rakhine State (northern part - Maungdaw, Sittwe), rainfall of 250 to over 400 millimeters could be received within the next 5 days, with very heavy rain possible, while in southern Rakhine State, rainfall of 150 to 250 millimeters could be received.

In Sagaing Region (upper part), Kachin State, and Chin State, total rainfall of 125 to 200 millimeters could be received within the next 5 days, with scattered heavy rain possible.

In Ayeyarwady Region, Yangon Region, Bago Region, and Tanintharyi Region, total rainfall of 100 to 175 millimeters could be received within the next 5 days, while in Sagaing Region (lower part), Magway Region, and Mandalay Region, rainfall of 40 to 75 millimeters could be received.

In Shan State, Kayah State, Kayin State, and Mon State, total rainfall of 75 to 125 millimeters could be received within the next 5 days, and in Naypyidaw, rainfall of 50 to 90 millimeters could be received.

Meteorologist U Win Naing has analyzed and forecast that in the northern Bay of Bengal and along the adjacent northern Rakhine State/Sittwe coastline, total rainfall could reach 300 to over 450 millimeters within the next 5 days, resulting in very high rainfall levels.
